The embattled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has claimed that he borrowed N400 million to secure an appointment in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting the money was paid as a bribe and has not been repaid.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Adeyemi maintained that the payment was made to facilitate his appointment, despite the Presidency’s insistence that the PFIPC is a non-existent government agency.

“I borrowed this money (N400 million). In fact, those that I borrowed this N400 million from have reported to the EFCC. I borrowed the money to pay for this appointment. I’m even yet to repay the money,” Adeyemi said.

He also reaffirmed his earlier allegation that the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, received the money through a proxy and later demanded an additional N200 million before his appointment could be finalised.

The Presidency has dismissed the allegation as false, describing the PFIPC as a fictitious agency. However, the controversy has persisted amid reports that the agency appeared in the federal budget and allegedly operated from an office within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.

Responding to allegations that he falsely presented himself as a United Nations ambassador, Adeyemi denied any wrongdoing, describing the claims as part of a coordinated campaign to discredit him.

“It is all sponsored. It is a campaign of calumny,” he said.

The allegations have triggered wider scrutiny of the controversial agency, with President Tinubu directing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate claims surrounding the PFIPC, including allegations of bribery, forgery and abuse of office.
