How Tinubu will win 2027 election — Accord Party presidential candidate

The factional presidential candidate and National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Christopher Imumolen, has explained why he believes President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election, citing the administration’s reform agenda, leadership style and growing support across the country.

Imumolen made the remarks during a news conference in Lagos on Friday, where he formally announced his withdrawal from the 2027 presidential race and endorsed Tinubu for a second term in office.

He said the decision followed extensive consultations with the leadership and members of the Accord Party, stressing that national interest should take precedence over personal ambition and partisan interests.

According to him, Nigerians are beginning to appreciate the long-term benefits of the administration’s reforms despite prevailing economic and security challenges.

Why Tinubu will win

Imumolen argued that Tinubu’s people-oriented programmes and policy direction have strengthened his chances of re-election in 2027.

“Tinubu will win because of his people-oriented programmes and the massive support he has received from different parts of the country.

“There is focus. Let us forget about the challenges of inflation and security. There must be progress.

“If another person comes in 2027, he will have to start all over again. There must be continuity. He has identified the challenges and we need to move from where we are to the next phase. That is why we are supporting him and he will win. My support is total,” he said.

He maintained that continuity in governance remained essential for sustaining reforms, attracting investment, creating jobs and strengthening public institutions.

Reasons for endorsement

Imumolen said the Accord Party endorsed Tinubu after reviewing the administration’s performance and assessing Nigeria’s future development needs.

According to him, the President’s reform agenda closely aligns with his own manifesto, particularly in the areas of economic transformation, education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, industrialisation and national development.

He disclosed that the party identified 10 reasons for backing Tinubu’s re-election bid, beginning with his courage in implementing difficult economic reforms, demonstrated leadership capacity and commitment to progressive governance through the continuity of development projects.

The Accord Party chairman added that the President’s deliberate efforts to empower young people, bridge the generational leadership gap and appoint competent individuals into strategic public offices also influenced the endorsement.

He further listed placing national interest above personal ambition, ensuring policy continuity, promoting political stability, sustaining reforms and demonstrating transparency through the party’s early endorsement as other reasons behind the decision.

Youth inclusion, opposition prospects

Imumolen commended Tinubu for appointing young Nigerians into strategic government positions, saying the move had created opportunities for the younger generation to contribute meaningfully to governance and national development.

He reiterated that his political ambition had always been driven by a desire to serve Nigeria rather than occupy public office, insisting that supporting Tinubu was in the country’s best interest.

The Accord Party chairman also expressed confidence that no opposition presidential candidate, including those of the African Democratic Congress and the National Democratic Congress, currently possesses stronger electoral prospects than Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

He dismissed claims that the endorsement was prompted by weak political structures within the Accord Party, insisting that the decision was based entirely on Tinubu’s performance and what he described as the overriding national interest.

Imumolen added that the party announced its endorsement well ahead of the election to provide clarity to its members and supporters while demonstrating openness about its political direction ahead of the 2027 polls.
