Group demands clarity on status of Ogoni oil resumption

A group, Ogoni Dialogue Committee (ODC), Wednesday, demanded for a clear position of oil activities, following a growing apprehension among section of the Ogoni population that certain oil-related activities may have commenced in part of Ogoniland while consultations between the federal government and stakeholders.
Addressing a press conference in Port Harcourt, the president of Kagote, the apex socio-cultural organisations of Ogoni people, Chief Lesi Maol, said the Ogoni Dialogue Committee (ODC) was inaugurated in 2025 with the mandate of engaging the Ogoni people towards achieving a durable resolution of issues surrounding the resumption of oil in Ogoni land.
Kakote president commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the establishment of dialogue process and his decision to entrust its coordination to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, as chief negotiator on the part of federal government demonstrates the seriousness which the federal government approaches the Ogoni question.
“We particularly recognise the integrity and distinguished public service record of the National Security Adviser and believe that the dialogue process, as conceived by the federal government, represents a genuine opportunity to achieve lasting peace and a mutual benefit both the Ogoni people and the federal government.
“It is precisely because we support this initiative and desire its success that we consider it necessary to draw attention to certain developments which, if left unaddressed, may undermine public confidence in the process,” Kakote president stated.
