The national leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has rejected the suspension of its activities in Osun State, insisting that no governor has the authority to halt the union’s operations.

On Friday, the union inaugurated a seven-man caretaker committee led by Mr. Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, to oversee parks and garages in the state.

The ceremony took place at the NURTW headquarters in Abuja.Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier ordered the suspension of NURTW activities in Osun, citing recent violent clashes between rival factions that unsettled residents.

His directive also banned levy collections in motor parks and authorized security agencies to arrest anyone posing as union officials.

Reacting to the move, NURTW President Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, through his deputy Aliyu Issa Ore, argued that state governors lack the legal power to suspend the union.

He stressed that NURTW is governed by national laws and decrees, not state directives.Ore explained that the caretaker committee was necessary to restore leadership in Osun ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, noting that the union has a memorandum of understanding with INEC.

He declared Oyewale as the new chairman of the Osun caretaker leadership, emphasizing that the national body would continue to oversee union activities until disputes in the state are resolved.
