Fresh ₦54bn Allegation: Atiku Demands Probe of Gbajabiamila
Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has urged the Federal Government to launch an independent investigation into fresh corruption allegations against President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The call followed a report by The Gazette, which alleged that Gbajabiamila secured approval to divert about ₦54 billion in oil and gas royalty funds using what was described as a “fake law.”
Although the claims have not been independently verified and Gbajabiamila has yet to respond publicly, Atiku insisted that the matter must not be ignored.
“This issue goes beyond partisan politics; it’s about the impunity of corruption that undermines the welfare and future of ordinary Nigerians,” Atiku said in a statement released by his media office in Abuja.
He accused the government of double standards in handling corruption cases, noting that opposition figures are often swiftly investigated while serving officials are shielded.
Atiku recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari suspended then-Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, pending investigation into similar allegations.
The former Vice President stressed that Gbajabiamila should face the same scrutiny, adding that previous allegations against him further justify an impartial probe.
He urged the government to ensure anti-corruption efforts are applied fairly, insisting that all public officials must be held accountable under the law.
