FCT police commissioner visits High Court Chief Judge, reaffirms commitment to effective justice delivery

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Sanusi, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge, High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, at the High Court of the FCT, Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen the existing working relationship between the FCT Police Command and the High Court of the FCT in administration of justice within the Federal Capital Territory.

A press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, noted that during the visit, the CP expressed his profound appreciation to the Hon. Chief Judge for granting him an audience and commended the cordial working relationship that exists between the FCT Police Command and the High Court of the FCT.

She said the Police boss emphasised that effective policing and the administration of justice are mutually reinforcing and require sustained collaboration between both institutions.

The CP highlighted a number of challenges affecting investigative policing within the FCT and appealed for the continued support of the judiciary in facilitating the prompt issuance of court orders and judicial authorisations, including search warrants, bench warrants, and other legal processes that are critical to timely investigations, effective law enforcement, and the successful prosecution of criminal cases.

The CP also expressed concern over the prolonged prosecution of certain criminal matters, noting that this sometimes results in the extended detention of suspects in police custody, thereby contributing to congestion in police detention facilities.

The PPRO noted that, in his response, the Hon. Chief Judge of the High Court of the FCT, Hon. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, welcomed the Commissioner of Police and his delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit. He expressed confidence in the leadership of CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, describing his appointment as timely and expressing optimism that his wealth of experience would further enhance security and the administration of justice within the FCT.

The Chief Judge acknowledged the concerns and requests presented by the CP and assured him of his willingness to continue providing the necessary institutional support required to promote the efficient administration of justice within the FCT.

He also identified areas requiring the attention of the Commissioner of Police and stressed the importance of sustained cooperation in preserving the longstanding symbiotic relationship between the Judiciary and the Police.

The visit concluded with the exchange of goodwill and commemorative gifts, as well as group photographs, symbolizing the shared commitment of both institutions to promoting the rule of law, strengthening criminal justice delivery, and enhancing public confidence in the justice system.
