FCT: Kuje LG chair Shekwolo flags off distribution of instructional materials
The chairman of Kuje area council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, Monday, distributed fertiliser, waste bins, and instructional materials to schools as part of efforts to assist in this year’s farming season.
Shekwolo stated this while distributing 10,000 bags of fertiliser free of charge to farmers across the 10 political wards of Kuje area council.
He urged the benefiting farmers to make good use of them for the development of agriculture in the area.
The chairman promised to support farmers, strengthen education, promote a clean and healthy environment, improve infrastructure, and implement programmes that respond to genuine needs of communities.
According to Shekwolo he said, the gesture was part of his efforts in ensuring that farmers in the area were assisted with fertilizers to improve farm seedlings and farm equipment every farming season for food security.
He said his administration has no choice than to distribute fertilizer to farmers, adding that we want to reorganise farmers and reawaken them because agriculture is key to the economy.
“It is our target to ensure we encourage farmers and others to go back to agriculture for sustainable development of Kuje and Nigeria as a whole.
“We will ensure every farmer benefits from the distribution of these products because Kuje is the food basket of FCT,” he stated.
One of the beneficiaries, Danlami Luka applauded the council chairman for his kind gesture to the farmers and assured him of adequate use of the fertilizer and other farm inputs.
The chairman added: “We are flagging off the distribution of 10 waste bins to strategic locations within Kuje township as part of our commitment to improved sanitation and public health. Government cannot achieve a clean Kuje alone. It is a shared responsibility. I appeal to our residents to take ownership of this initiative. Let us avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse, make proper use of the waste bins provided, and work together to keep our communities clean,” he stated.
He said education is one of the topmost priorities of his administration, adding that the most important investment any government can make is an investment in the education of its children.
