FCC remains committed to advancing constitutional mandate – Commissioner

Oyo state Federal Commissioner of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, Sunday, said the Commission remains committed to advancing its constitutional mandate.

Prince Abass-Aleshinloye said this while speaking at a national workshop for the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and representatives of the 774 local government areas in the country holding between August 24 -25, 2026, at the Tropic Galleria, Abuja.

The FCC commissioner stated that the commission is committed to promoting fairness, equity and inclusiveness in the distribution of socio-economic opportunities and development across Nigeria.

Prince Abass-Aleshinloye who is also the chairman of the Planning Committee for the  two-day workshop, themed “Deepening National Unity Through Grassroots Implementation of the Federal Character Principle” hinted that it is organised by the FCC in conjunction with the Progressive Governors’ Forum.

He tasked all the local government chairmen across the country to actively participate in the national as the workshop was designed to deepen discussions on equitable development, strengthen grassroots governance and promote a fairer distribution of socio-economic amenities and infrastructure across Nigeria.

Prince Abass-Aleshinloye said the success of the workshop should not be measured only by the quality of discussions in Abuja, but by the extent to which its outcomes translate into tangible benefits for Nigerians at the grassroots.

The chairman of the planning committee stated that local government chairmen have a crucial role to play in the process because they constitute the tier of government closest to the people and that their proximity to communities places them in a strategic position to identify grassroots needs, implement development initiatives and ensure that socio-economic amenities and infrastructure are delivered fairly and equitably.

He stated further that the workshop would provide an important platform for local government leaders to share experiences, exchange ideas and develop practical strategies for improving grassroots governance, infrastructure delivery and equitable development.
