EFCC Says Immigration CG Kemi Nandap Not Under Visa Fraud Investigation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied reports that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation over alleged visa fraud involving some immigration officers.

In a statement issued on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale described reports linking Nandap to the alleged visa racketeering investigation as inaccurate, stressing that the commission has no case or investigation involving the Immigration Comptroller-General.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is aware of reports in the media about alleged visa racketeering involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, especially insinuations about an investigation of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap,” the statement read.

The commission clarified that the cases currently before the Federal High Court involve individual immigration officers accused of fraudulent practices, while investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Oyewale said additional officers could be arraigned if evidence links them to the alleged misconduct but reiterated that Nandap is not connected to the investigations.

The EFCC also advised media organisations and the public to verify information through the appropriate channels before reporting on its investigations and other activities.
