Doctor st@bbed to de@th, wife wounded as intruder claiming to be God attacks couple while they slept

A doctor in Pennsylvania, United States, was st@bbed to de@th and his wife was critically wounded after an alleged intruder broke into their home and attacked the couple while they were sleeping.

Dr Idris Evans, 46, a pediatric critical care physician at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, was attacked alongside his wife at their home in Edgewood early Thursday, according to Allegheny County police.

Police received a report of a stabbing at about 12:30 a.m., and responding officers found Evans and his wife suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Evans was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced de@d, while his wife was also taken to the hospital in critical condition.

According to court documents cited by local media, Evans’ wife told investigators that the couple woke up to find a man attacking them in their bed with a kitchen knife.

She reportedly said the attacker was wearing only underwear and made statements about “being God” during the ass@ult.

During the attack, the woman reportedly screamed for the couple’s two children, aged eight and 12, to escape the house and run to a neighbour. The children were unharmed.

Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway, who was arrested after being found behind a nearby home with cuts to his hand.

Investigators said Hemingway allegedly entered the property through an open window before going upstairs and attacking the sleeping couple.

He has been charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary and criminal trespass.

Authorities said the motive remains under investigation. They are also trying to establish whether Hemingway and Evans knew each other before the attack.

Evans was the medical director of the Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team at UPMC Children’s Hospital and an assistant professor of critical care medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
