DJ Chicken Remanded Over Alleged Death Threat Against Seyi Tinubu

Popular content creator Ademola Abiodun, widely known as DJ Chicken, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after appearing before a Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos, over alleged threats directed at Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.

The defendant was arraigned on Friday on a three-count charge bordering on alleged threat to life, conduct capable of causing a breach of public peace and offences under the Cybercrime Act.

The prosecution told the court that the charges stemmed from a video shared on DJ Chicken’s social media platforms in which he allegedly made threatening remarks while commenting on Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

According to the prosecution, the video contained statements considered threatening and offensive, prompting criminal proceedings under the Criminal Law of Lagos State and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.

The court also heard that the content creator later released another video retracting the comments, claiming they were intended as a joke to attract online attention and insisting he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu.

Despite the public apology, the state proceeded with the prosecution.

DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Magistrate M.F. Onamusi admitted him to bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum.

The court directed that one surety must be a government employee, while the other must be a recognised community leader who owns landed property in Lagos State. Both sureties are also required to provide evidence of three years’ tax clearance, LASRRA identification, National Identification Number (NIN) and recent utility bills. In addition, one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, the magistrate ordered that DJ Chicken be remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

The matter was adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further hearing.
