DataPro upgrades Dangote Cement long-term rating to ‘AA+’ with stable outlook
DataPro, a technology-driven credit rating agency, has upgraded the long-term credit rating of Dangote Cement Plc from “AA” to “AA+,” signaling the company’s robust financial resilience despite prevailing macroeconomic headwinds.
The rating agency also affirmed the company’s short-term rating of “A1,” indicating good credit quality and a satisfactory capacity for the timely payment of financial commitments. Valid until June 16, 2027, the upgraded rating carries a “Stable Outlook”.
According to DataPro, the upgrade reflects Dangote Cement’s sustained financial strength, resilient operating performance, and dominant market position within Nigeria and across the African continent.
The assessment followed a comprehensive evaluation of the company’s capitalization, earnings profile, liquidity, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and long-term financial sustainability.
The credit rating agency highlighted the company’s stellar 2025 financial performance as a key driver for the upgrade. Dangote Cement recorded a revenue of ₦4.31 trillion, representing a 20% year-on-year increase, while its Profit Before Tax (PBT) surged by 109% to ₦1.53 trillion.
In a statement signed by DataPro’s Business Development & Client Services Manager, Kehinde Rasheed, the agency explained that the “AA+” long-term rating denotes lower risk.
”The rating upgrade reflects Dangote Cement Plc’s sustained financial strength, resilient operating performance, and leading market position within Nigeria and across Africa,” Rasheed stated. “The company’s profitability was strengthened by strong revenue growth, improved operating efficiency, lower finance costs, and a stronger capital structure.”
The report further emphasized that Dangote Cement’s strong brand presence, robust asset base, and experienced management team continue to bolster its ability to meet financial obligations in a timely manner.
DataPro, however, clarified that the rating carries a maximum shelf life of 12 calendar months in line with international best practices. The agency noted that the evaluation is intended solely for reference purposes and does not constitute an offer to trade in securities or a substitute for user judgment.
