Connor Murphy Death Rumors Fact-Checked: Did Fitness Influencer Drown In Thailand?

Murphy rose to prominence in 2016 with his viral “fake shirt” prank videos and later built a large online following as a fitness influencer.

Social media was flooded with rumors on Tuesday claiming that fitness influencer and bodybuilder Connor Murphy had died. While the claims initially spread without official confirmation, Thai local media have since reported that a 32-year-old American identified as Connor Michael Murphy died after drowning in a lake in Samut Prakan Province, Thailand.

As of the information available, Murphy’s family or representatives have not publicly confirmed his death.

According to Thai news reports, police responded to reports of a foreign man behaving erratically at a luxury residential community in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province, at around 3:00 p.m. on July 7, 2026.

Authorities said the man allegedly painted the interior of a luxury rental home valued at 22 million baht, causing extensive damage before running into the village lake.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Weeraphong Rupsuay, emergency medical personnel and rescue volunteers responded to the scene.

Divers later recovered the body of Connor Michael Murphy, 32, approximately 20 meters from the shore.

According to the report, authorities found no wounds or signs of assault on the body, which has been sent to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The report also said Murphy’s girlfriend told authorities she did not know what caused his behavior, while the homeowner said they were shocked by the incident.

Rumors First Spread On Social Media

Earlier Tuesday, speculation about Murphy’s death spread rapidly after an X post from BowTied Biohacker, an anonymous account affiliated with the BoTied Biohacking collective.

The account wrote:

“RIP Connor Murphy. Thank you for all the laughs and top tier schizo posts. You were a lot smarter than people realized. Enjoy some real Divine Protein Shakes up there king.”

The post fueled widespread speculation before the Thai media reports emerged.

While Thai media have identified the deceased as Connor Michael Murphy, an official statement from Murphy’s family or representatives has not yet been released.
