Brighton Complete Club-Record £46m Signing Of Luka Vuskovic From Tottenham

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of highly rated Croatia defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur in a club-record deal worth an initial £46 million.

The 19-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year contract with the Seagulls, with the agreement including an option to extend his stay by a further year.

The transfer fee could also rise to £50 million through performance-related add-ons.

Brighton had seen two previous offers rejected before reaching an agreement with Tottenham for one of Europe’s most promising young defenders.

Vuskovic officially joined Spurs in 2025 after the North London club secured his signature from Croatian side Hajduk Split two years earlier.

However, he spent last season on loan at German club Hamburg, where he impressed with 30 Bundesliga appearances and six goals from defence.

His outstanding performances earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award and a place in the league’s Team of the Year.

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler said the club had closely monitored the defender’s development and believes he has the qualities to thrive in the Premier League.

“Last season he showed he can perform at a very high level. We believe our environment will help him continue his development, although we understand he will need time to adapt to the demands of English football,” Hurzeler said.

Vuskovic arrives at Brighton as a replacement for Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke, who has moved to Tottenham in a separate deal reportedly worth £52 million.

The Croatian international rose through Hajduk Split’s youth academy and made history by becoming the club’s youngest-ever league player at the age of 16 before later setting another record as its youngest goalscorer.

He has already earned six senior caps for Croatia, scoring once, and featured for his country at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, including an appearance against England in the group stage.

Brighton will begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign at home against Aston Villa on August 23, with Vuskovic expected to play a key role in Hurzeler’s defensive plans.
