BrahMos, Astra Missiles, EVMs: BIG Deals Expected During PM Modi's Indonesia Visit – DETAILS
Key agreements are anticipated during PM Modi’s Indonesia visit, particularly in defense and technology, including Indonesia’s plans to acquire Indian Astra missiles and develop Electronic Voting Machines tailored for its needs.
Jakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a two-day visit to Indonesia as part of India’s Act East Policy. Notably, Indonesia is viewing India as more than just a strategic ally, looking at New Delhi as a reliable partner for technology, governance, and development. India’s successful public policy initiatives across multiple sectors are emerging as key models for Indonesia’s own development goals.
During PM Mooi’s visit, several key deals are expected to be signed between the two nations, especially in defence and technology sectors. From Indonesia’s decision to procure Indian-made Astra air-to-air missiles and expand its BrahMos arsenal to India’s support for developing Indonesia-specific Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the visit is set to mark a new chapter in bilateral ties, sources claimed.
During his first leg of a three-nation visit, PM Modi arrived in Indonesia on Monday, aimed at further strengthening India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision and its commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. PM Modi was received at the airport by Indonesian President Subianto. In addition, four ministers were also present to receive the Prime Minister,
Fighter jets from the Indonesian Air Force accompanied PM Modi’s plane from the time it entered the country’s airspace. This is PM Modi’s first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.
“In 2018, we elevated our relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has benefitted our people,” PM Modi had said.
On Tuesday, PM Modi meets Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at Istana Merdeka (Presidential Palace). PM Modi was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome upon his arrival in Jakarta.
This official visit to Indonesia, running from July 6 to 8 at the personal invitation of President Prabowo, marks his fourth journey to the Southeast Asian country.
