Boko Haram Has Mega Sponsorship From Within, Outside Nigeria – Ex-Army Chief
Former Sector Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Maj-Gen Anthony Atolagbe (rtd), has revealed that Boko Haram and bandit groups enjoy massive sponsorship both from within and outside Nigeria.
Atolagbe made the disclosure on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time.
He pointed to the use of Starlink by bandits for communication, suggesting the devices may not have been procured locally but brought in from outside the country.
The retired general stressed that terrorism and banditry transcend Nigeria’s borders, calling for stronger international collaboration to tackle the menace.
“There is a mega sponsorship for Boko Haram from within and outside Nigeria,” he said.
“When you talk about people being funded, certainly we are talking about something bigger than what we can just imagine. So, they are not only in Nigeria.”
Atolagbe noted that several individuals have been identified as part of this extensive sponsorship network.
He advocated for a coordinated counter-terrorism effort involving the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), ECOWAS, and other affected countries to find a lasting solution.
