Bode George’s Abuja Property Was Acquired With Rivers State Funds – Lere Olayinka

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed claims that former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, acquired his Abuja property using funds traced to Rivers State.

In a statement issued Thursday, Olayinka stressed that Wike’s position was not about the identity of the seller or agent involved in the transaction, but about the source of the money used. “Wike was clear. He said Bode George’s Abuja house was acquired with funds from Rivers State, and he stands by this,” Olayinka said.

Responding to George’s recent media appearances, Olayinka accused the former military governor of lacking the moral standing to lecture Nigerians on corruption. He urged George to act with maturity befitting his age and past office, rather than engaging in what he described as self-disrespect.

Olayinka also challenged George to account for the PDP’s repeated electoral failures in Lagos State under his leadership, noting that the party has not won a single polling unit in the state since 1999.

Citing Yoruba tradition, Olayinka argued that respect for elders is conditional on their conduct, accusing George of failing to honour repeated vows to leave Nigeria if President Bola Tinubu assumed office. He listed several occasions between 2015 and 2022 when George publicly pledged to renounce his citizenship or relocate abroad if Tinubu became president, but has yet to follow through.

“Should such an elder still be regarded as honourable?” Olayinka asked, insisting that George’s credibility has been undermined by his failure to keep his word.
