Bode George, Akerele-Bucknor, associates honour late Funsho Williams

Dignitaries including Chief Bode George, former Lagos state deputy governor and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Koforola Akerele-Bucknor and the leadership of the party in Lagos , friends and associates of the late politician, Monday, graced the   twentieth remembrance anniversary of Funsho Williams,.

 The late Williams who was the governorship candidate of the party in 2003 was murdered on 27 July, 2006 by unknown assailants. The event was held at the St Dominic’s Church, Yaba, Lagos state.

The former deputy national chairman of the party, Chief Bode George described the deceased as an epitome of civility and an icon.

He recalled the tragic event, “Twenty is a long time but it looks like yesterday. The pain of his loss is still there. You know we were in government at the national then and I could remember the president  calling me around 7am that I had to go to Lagos that Funsho has been murdered. We flew to Lagos and I went straight to his house. I saw him lying lifeless. I can’t forever forget the sight.

He was my junior at the university. Funsho was an epitome of civility and icon. He was an humanist and a gentle man. We lost a gem. Now time has lapsed and I want to plead with Nigerians to take this easy.

Twenty years after, has the nation settled? Who is happy? Those in government today should aim for the good of the country. It is a sad memory but we give thanks for his life. I pray God guide our affairs. I want to reassure Nigerians of all tribes that our party, indomitable party, shall never die.”

Also a politician, Dr Funsho Doherty described late Williams as a man with a shining legacy worthy of emulation.
