Stakeholders from Igedeland weekend lamented that poor representation for 25 years since the return of democratic governance since 1999 has resulted in low meaningful development for the people.
This was stated in a communiqué issued after the 2nd Annual Public Lecture of the Association of Igede Media Professionals, held recently in Abuja.
The communiqué stated that, “Poverty, absence of infrastructure, lack of industries, and underdevelopment persist despite the community’s agricultural potential and human capital.”
The meeting urged the electorate to shun vote-selling and vote for competence, while charging the media to remain partners in development through accountability journalism.
The Association also resolved to work toward establishing a credible, non-partisan body to mentor future leaders and ensure only those with integrity and capacity are supported by the community.
The NLC Spokesperson, Sir Benson Upah, spoke on “Re-thinking Leadership Recruitment System in Igedeland: 2027 in Focus” at the event chaired by former Chief Economic Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Ode Ojowu.
