Benin DisCo Staff Electrocuted In Ekiti

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company BEDC Electricity Plc has confirmed the electrocution of one of its technical staff members in Ekiti.

It was disclosed that the staff sustained injuries from the electrocution while carrying out maintenance work on an 11kV feeder.

In a statement issued by its Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Mrs Evelyn Gbiwen, on Tuesday in Benin, said the incident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. on Saturday in the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area of Ado-Ekiti.

In a report made available to newsmen in Benin, she identified the injured employee as Mr Akinyemi Bamidele, a technical linesman.

According to her, Bamidele sustained burns to his arm and other parts of his body after receiving an electric shock while carrying out an operational task on the 11kV Basiri Feeder following scheduled maintenance work.

Evelyn noted that the employee was immediately taken to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, where he was receiving treatment.

She added that Bamidele was in a stable condition and responding well to medical care.

Evelyn reaffirmed BEDC’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its employees and is providing the necessary support to the injured staff member during this period.

According to her, the company had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

She added that appropriate measures would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
