BEDC Electricity Plc has begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding an electrical incident involving one of its technical staff in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state.
The staff member, Mr. Akinyemi Bamidele, a technical linesman, reportedly sustained burns to his arm and other parts of his body after receiving an electric shock while carrying out an operational task on the 11kV Basiri Feeder.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 6:20p.m. on Saturday in the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus area of Ado-Ekiti, during a scheduled maintenance work.
In a statement released by BEDC’s Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Mrs. Evelyn Gbiwen, in Benin City on Friday, the company said Bamidele was immediately rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, where he is receiving medical treatment.
Gbiwen said “the injured staff member is in stable condition and responding well to medical care.”
According to her, the company remained committed to the safety and wellbeing of its employees and was providing the necessary support to the affected staff.
She said the on-going investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that appropriate measures would be taken based on its outcome.
“We will continue to monitor the staff member’s condition and provide the required support during his recovery,” she said.
