The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) Anyigba, Kogi state, has expelled six students for gross examination misconduct involving the rewriting of an examination at a lecturer’s private residence, while nine others were withdrawn over poor academic performance and violations of registration requirements.
The decisions were reached at the institution’s 167th Regular Senate Meeting held recently at the University Auditorium.
The expulsion followed investigations into a scandal that rocked the department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, where a lecturer was accused of facilitating an illegal examination rewrite for students outside official university procedures.
University authorities stated that on July 1, 2026, management acted on credible intelligence that a lecturer was coordinating students to re-write an examination at his residence, leading to the arrest of Dr. Maji Okpanachi and several students at his private residence located behind the Police Area Command along Idah Road, Anyigba.
Security operatives reportedly recovered incriminating materials at the scene, prompting a full investigation by the Examination Misconduct Committee.
The committee, in its report to Senate, confirmed both the security findings and confessional statements by those involved, establishing that some students re-wrote the BOT102 (Introduction to Plant Science) examination days after it had officially been conducted.
Each of the students was said to have paid N10,000 to participate in the illicit exercise.
