Army Arrests Sudanese Terror Suspect, Ghanaian Illegal Immigrant in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 32-year-old Sudanese national suspected of being a foreign terrorist fighter, alongside a 36-year-old Ghanaian woman alleged to be an illegal immigrant, during a security operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the suspects were apprehended by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion at about 11:48 a.m. on Sunday in the Lassa, Dille General Area.

According to the military, the Sudanese national, identified as Musa Fashir, is suspected to have links with terrorist elements operating in the North-East.

“Troops of Sector 4, Operation Hadin Kai, while sustaining aggressive counter-terrorism operations across the North-East theatre, have apprehended another foreign terrorist fighter and an alleged illegal immigrant during a security operation,” the statement said.

It added that preliminary intelligence indicated Fashir had established connections with terrorist groups, suggesting continued attempts by foreign actors to support insurgent activities in the region.

The second suspect, Mary Florence, who claimed to be from the Republic of Ghana, was arrested during the same operation.

According to the military, investigations are ongoing to verify her identity, establish the circumstances surrounding her presence in the area and determine whether she has any links to terrorist or transnational criminal networks.

Both suspects are currently in military custody undergoing profiling and interrogation.

Capt. Goni said the arrests underscored the effectiveness of the military’s intelligence-driven operations in disrupting terrorist support networks and preventing the infiltration of foreign fighters into the country.

He reaffirmed Operation Hadin Kai’s commitment to neutralising terrorists, dismantling their logistics and support structures, and restoring peace across the North-East.

The military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to defeating insurgency and strengthening national security.
