APC Clears First 2027 Hurdle, Submits 471 Candidates to INEC

• Tinubu and Shettima formally confirmed as APC’s presidential ticket for the 2027 general election.
• Ruling party completes upload of presidential, Senate and House of Representatives candidates to INEC portal.
• APC shifts attention to nationwide mobilisation after recording 100 per cent compliance with nomination process.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has completed the submission of its candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, formally confirming President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as the party’s presidential ticket.

The ruling party announced on Sunday that it had successfully uploaded the details of 471 candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Candidate Nomination Portal (ICNP), meeting the electoral body’s requirements for the offices covered under the current nomination window.

The submissions comprise the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, 109 Senate candidates and 360 House of Representatives candidates.

Announcing the development in a statement, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the exercise as a major milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general election.

“I congratulate our candidates, leaders, and members of APC on the successful 100% upload of our Presidential, Vice Presidential, Senate, and House of Representatives candidates on the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal (ICNP),” Yilwatda said.

He said the successful completion of the nomination process allows the party to concentrate on its next phase of electoral activities.

“With this milestone achieved, our focus now shifts to mobilisation and preparations for a successful campaign and decisive victory at the polls,” he added.

The successful upload officially ends months of speculation over the APC’s presidential ticket by confirming that Tinubu will seek re-election alongside Shettima.

The party’s announcement came shortly after the close of INEC’s nomination window for presidential and National Assembly candidates.

Under the commission’s timetable for the 2027 general election, political parties received access codes to the Candidate Nomination Portal on June 26, while the upload of Forms EC9 and EC9A to EC9E commenced on June 27 in accordance with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026.

Although INEC has since granted political parties additional time to complete submissions following appeals by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), the APC said it had concluded its uploads before the expiration of the initial deadline.

The completion of the exercise places the ruling party among the first to finalise nominations for the presidential and National Assembly elections as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 polls.

Attention is now expected to shift to the next phase of the electoral timetable, which covers the nomination of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.
