The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in all the chairmanship and councillorship positions contested in Saturday’s local government election in Edo state.
The official declaration of results by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) at a press briefing in Benin City Sunday by chairman of the commission, Mr. Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, stated that the APC secured the 18 local government chairmanship seats as well as the 192 councillorship positions across the state’s 18 councils and 192 electoral wards.
He said the poll was conducted in line with the provisions of the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law, 2022, as amended in 2026, noting that accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation and declaration of results were carried out in accordance with the legal framework guiding the exercise.
He said results announced by returning officers at the ward and local government collation centres formed the basis upon which the commission declared the APC candidates elected.
Aifuobhokhan expressed satisfaction with the performance of electoral officials, particularly the returning officers, whom he said discharged their duties professionally, impartially and in strict compliance with the law.
