4.98 CGPA, 5.0 In Six Semesters – Meet 21 Year-Old Genius Leading 900 Graduates Out of Crescent University
● ‘No free marks at Crescent Varsity;’ 2026 Valedictorian, Muhsin Adedamola Ashimi, Speaks On Feat
Muhsin Adedamola Ashimi has done what many students only dream of. At just 21, the Mass Communication graduand will lead over 900 students out of Crescent University, Abeokuta, as the Overall Best Graduating Student for the 2025/2026 academic session.
With a jaw-dropping Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.98, Ashimi has shattered records and stereotypes, proving that brilliance knows no bounds when backed by discipline.
In an exclusive interview with Principal Assistant Registrar, Public Relations, Idris Katib, the young scholar dismissed the popular myth that private universities dash out grades.
“Contrary to the stereotypes about private universities, Crescent University has quite high academic standards that it maintains. There are no free marks anywhere unless you work for it,” he said.
Ashimi is set to deliver the valedictory speech on behalf of all graduating students at the 18th Convocation Ceremonies scheduled for October 2026, a moment that will crown his stellar academic journey.
He revealed that maintaining a perfect 5.00 in six out of eight semesters was no child’s play. It demanded sleepless nights, extra pages and extra grit.

“Making a first class required going a little farther, reading a little longer and writing a bit better than everyone else. Graduating as the overall best is not something that happens to anyone by accident. The person must have made a conscious decision to be the best and worked tirelessly to get there,” he said.
Asked about his toughest moments, Ashimi said his 100 level second semester and 400 level second semester were the most challenging, with one particular course he described as “always tough and rigorous” because the lecturer constantly demanded high standards. Yet, he always secured an A in that course.
Reflecting on his time in Crescent, the prolific writer and multiple award winner said three moments shaped his career — his first 5.0 in 100 level first semester, winning first place in a debate at Obafemi Awolowo University against other prestigious universities despite being handicapped, and the humbling moment in 300 level when his CGPA dropped.
“The first two events helped me build confidence in my abilities. The last one taught me to remain humble, to appreciate and celebrate the wins along the way because 5.0 isn’t a birthright but a privilege,” he recalled.
On his future, the Mass Communication star said his eyes are on areas where his creativity can explode. In a world now driven by advertisements and digital presence, he believes the ability to craft a story from a promise and keep that promise is priceless.
“I am naturally a very creative person and I feel these are the areas I’d be able to fully explore my creative side and push myself far beyond my current limits,” Ashimi declared, as Crescent University prepares to celebrate its brightest star yet.
