A 14-year-old woman, recognized as Amina Ya’u, has sustained
gunshot accidents after suspected armed herders opened fireplace on farmers in
Majelisa village, a neighborhood bordering Nasarawa and Plateau states.

Security sources instructed Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency
publication, that the incident occurred at about 6:30am on November 5 following
studies of sporadic gunshots locally.

“Troops of Sector 9, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP),
deployed at Jenta, instantly responded to the misery report and moved to
the situation,” the report reads.

“On arrival, the troops found the teenage sufferer with
gunshot wounds, whereas the suspected attackers had fled earlier than their arrival.

“Preliminary investigations indicated {that a} group of armed
herders allegedly opened fireplace on farmers following a disagreement over grazing
actions.

“The troops evacuated the injured woman to the General
Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa State, for medical consideration.”

Makama stated engagements with Fulani leaders had been ongoing to
help in figuring out and finding the fleeing suspects.

The publication added that troops had intensified patrols
and their safety presence within the space to stop additional violence and a
potential escalation of the dispute.

The incident provides to a sequence of assaults reported within the
north-central area in latest months.

For a long time, violence involving herders and members of native
militias within the area has resulted in a number of deaths, destruction of farmlands
and the lack of cattle.
