Former Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force, Alhaji Sulaiman Abba, has reaffirmed his intention to contest for a senatorial seat under the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa state during the 2027 general elections.

Sulaiman Abba disclosed this during a press interview on Sunday, stating that he still retains the desire to serve the public by holding political office.

According to him, the denial of a ticket to contest under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) influenced his decision to defect to the PDP to align with his political vision and objectives.

The former Inspector-General added that, as an educated professional with leadership expertise, good health, and a passion for governance, he saw it fitting to join the race for the Jigawa South-West Senatorial seat.

On July 4, 2026, Alhaji Sulaiman Abba officially announced his departure from the APC and joined the PDP after spending nearly four years as a member and prominent stakeholder of the ruling party in Jigawa state.

Alhaji Abba, an indigene of the Kofar Fada Ward in Gwaram Local Government Area of the state, oversaw the 2015 elections with professionalism and adherence to policing standards to ensure fairness and justice—an effort that culminated in the victory of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in the general election.

The general elections in Nigeria are scheduled for January 2027, where the APC and other political parties—including the ADC, NDC, PDP, SDP, among others—will compete across various levels, ranging from the presidency to seats for senators, governors, members of the House of Representatives, and state houses of assembly.

This comes amid high public interest, particularly given the ongoing security challenges and economic hardship faced by citizens.
