2027 elections: Tinubu will win Kaduna, retain presidency – Defence Minister

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will retain the presidency and secure victory in Kaduna State in the 2027 general elections.

Musa, who dismissed suggestions that the opposition could defeat Tinubu at the polls, said the APC would also win the Kaduna State governorship election as well as other elective positions across the state. Blueprint reports

The minister stated this on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, hours after the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, told supporters that they were prepared to resist any attempt to manipulate the 2027 elections.

Obi had warned that Nigerians would not allow their votes to be subverted at polling units, while Kwankwaso argued that the APC could lose the 2027 presidential election despite controlling more than 30 states, citing the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election.

Musa dismisses northern rejection claims

Reacting to suggestions that voters in Kaduna and other parts of the North could punish the APC and President Tinubu because of dissatisfaction with the administration’s performance, Musa described the perceived rejection of the ruling party in the region as a matter of individual perception.

“That’s a perception. It’s a perception, and I mean, everybody has his own perception to deal with. People will always have the good, the bad, and the ugly,” he said.

The minister, who hails from the North, also rejected claims of growing opposition to the APC and Tinubu in the region, arguing that some individuals were attempting to exploit public sentiments arising from dissatisfaction with their personal circumstances.

“That’s why I said there are some people, because probably they are not where they think they are, the tendency is they want to whip up sentiments. APC is this, APC is that,” Musa said.

APC will win Kaduna, minister insists

Asked specifically whether the APC could lose Kaduna State in the 2027 elections, Musa expressed confidence that the ruling party would emerge victorious.

“I cannot say cannot lose. APC will win in Kaduna. That I know,” the minister said.

When asked whether his prediction covered only the presidential election or also the governorship contest, Musa gave an unequivocal response.

“Definitely. Presidential, governorship, and all levels,” he said.

His declaration comes as political parties and emerging coalitions intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with Kaduna expected to remain one of the strategically important battlegrounds in the North.

Defence of Tinubu’s administration

Musa also defended the policies and reforms of the Tinubu administration, saying the President had taken difficult decisions which, in his view, would gradually produce positive results for the country.

He urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the administration, maintaining that the impact of some of the reforms would become more evident with time.

The minister’s comments come against the backdrop of growing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition figures increasingly challenging the APC’s dominance while the ruling party continues to project confidence in its ability to retain power.

Musa’s position also reflects the APC’s broader argument that the administration’s reforms require time to deliver their intended benefits and that voters should assess the government based on its overall performance rather than immediate challenges.
