Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced the retention of his Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Galadima Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

Yusuf made the declaration on Monday during a strategic meeting with Federal Political Appointees serving under President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The governor’s decision was disclosed in a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who said the choice was based on Garo’s loyalty, commitment and contributions to the administration’s progress since assuming office.

Yusuf praises deputy’s performance

Governor Yusuf expressed satisfaction with his working relationship with Garo, describing him as a reliable deputy who has continued to support the administration’s vision for Kano State.

The governor said he had no regrets about selecting Garo as his deputy, adding that his actions and dedication had justified the confidence placed in him.

“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far. I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him,” Yusuf said.

He further commended Garo’s competence, sense of responsibility and commitment to ensuring the success of government programmes.

Focus on sustaining government agenda

The governor said the administration would continue to focus on consolidating its achievements while working towards delivering more benefits to the people of Kano State.

He noted that the support and cooperation of his deputy had contributed to the effective implementation of government policies and initiatives.

Yusuf expressed confidence that retaining Garo would strengthen the administration’s efforts as it prepares for the 2027 governorship election.

Governor seeks unity ahead of election

The governor urged party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united and committed as preparations for the next election cycle continue.

He appealed to stakeholders to work together in the interest of Kano State, stressing that unity would be important in sustaining the administration’s progress.

Yusuf also encouraged members of the party to continue supporting government efforts aimed at improving the lives of residents and advancing development across the state.

Garo’s retention signals continuity

The confirmation of Garo as Yusuf’s running mate signals the governor’s decision to maintain the existing leadership partnership ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.

With the announcement, Yusuf has reaffirmed his confidence in his deputy and indicated his intention to continue with the current political structure as the administration moves closer to the next electoral cycle.
