2027: Don’t Wait for Election, Resign in Peace – Kenneth Okonkwo Tells Tinubu

Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has urged President Bola Tinubu to resign honourably before the 2027 general elections rather than seek re-election.

Okonkwo made the call on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, while discussing the recent court judgment concerning the ADC.

 He argued that President Tinubu’s performance in office has been poor, particularly on security, and predicted that the president would have no chance of winning a fair election in 2027.

“Everything about this judgment is queued towards frustrating the opposition and trying to coronate Tinubu… because Tinubu by his performance has gone back to Bourdillion with one flight ticket by 2027,” Okonkwo said.

He highlighted ongoing insecurity across the country, citing mass killings in Plateau and Benue states, as well as beheadings in Oyo State. Okonkwo shared a personal story of his worker’s mother being kidnapped in Kaduna State, where kidnappers broke her fingers after the family could not meet the ransom demand.

“Life and the destruction of life is better prevented than cured… These ones are not reported,” he added.

Concluding his remarks, Okonkwo stated bluntly: “The issue here is that Tinubu should not even allow the election to hold, he should resign and go in peace.”

 The comments come amid heightened political discussions ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition figures increasingly critical of the Tinubu administration’s handling of security and economic challenges.
