2027: Aisha Yesufu Identifies Major Problem with Candidates’ Certificates

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has described Nigeria’s constitution as the core problem surrounding the academic certificates of candidates seeking elective office.

Yesufu made the remarks in a post on her verified X account on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Her comments followed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) publication of the credentials and personal details of all presidential candidates.

The publication showed that President Bola Tinubu did not list primary or secondary school qualifications in the educational details section of the personal particulars he submitted for the 2027 presidential election.

Yesufu, co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, stated: “On the issue of certificate, our constitution is the problem. That till this moment there is no constitutional change, that is where the real problem lies.”
