Leaders of the host communities for the proposed New Abakaliki Cement Factory, Tuesday, declared total support for the Ebonyi state government on the project.
The communities also endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru for the 2027 governorship election.
The position of the communities was made known to journalists in Abakaliki during a press briefing where the stakeholders presented a communiqué issued at the end of their meeting held on Saturday at the residence of former Senate Leader, Distinguished Senator Obinna Ogba, in Nkalagu.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Umuhuali, Nkalaha, Nkalagu and Amezu communities, regarded as the host communities of the proposed cement factory.
The stakeholders commended Governor Nwifuru for what they described as his visionary leadership and commitment to restoring Ebonyi state’s industrial base through the establishment of the new cement factory.
They noted that the governor’s inspection of the proposed project site with Chinese contractors, followed by his investment mission to China, culminated in the award of the contract, signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and mobilisation of the contractor to commence implementation.
They described the project as a landmark industrial initiative capable of creating thousands of jobs, stimulating commerce and entrepreneurship, promoting technology transfer, boosting internally generated revenue and positioning Ebonyi as a major industrial destination in the South-east.
