The Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) has arrested a suspected medical doctor allegedly treating injured bandits, alongside eight other suspects linked to kidnapping, cattle rustling, arms supply and drug trafficking.

The Commandant of the CPG and Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Muhammad Shehu Dalijan (rtd), stated this Monday at a press briefing held at the CPG headquarters, Gusau.

AIG Dalijan identified the suspect as Ibrahim Mafindi Titus, 32, an indigene of Taraba state, who confessed to working as a medical attendant for bandits.

The said commandant Titus spent one year at Gobirawa Chali treating bandits wounded in clashes with security forces.

“He told our interrogators that he sourced drugs through the Kano office of a U.S.-based company, New Life Company, and was introduced to the area by a woman named Ruth from Plateau state,” Dalijan said.

The AIG stated that Titus treated casualties from two major operations. After the encounter at Gobirawa Chali, three bandits were brought to him, two survived while one died. Following the Gummi operation, four other bandits were brought to him for treatment.

“Titus also confessed that there is a chemist at Gobirawa Chali owned by one Bala Likita Chali that handles most medical cases of bandits, and another at Bakin Dutse whose owner he does not know,” Dalijan added.

Also paraded was Abubakar Malan Ori, 20, from Kwanar Isa, who claimed to have spent five to six months in the camp of notorious bandit kingpin Kachalla Gwaska armed with an AK-47 rifle.

Ori confessed to participating in several operations during which a total of N226 million was collected as ransom from kidnapped victims across Zamfara, Niger, Kaduna and Niger Republic.

“My share of the proceeds ranges between N50, 000 to N100,000 per operation,” he said. “When we go for operations we move with about 300 motorcycles. At Gummi we lost eight of our men.”
