Veteran actor Nkem Owoh, popularly often called Osuofia, has rejected claims that Yoruba individuals began Nollywood, insisting that his feedback had been concerning the origins of residence video in Nigeria.

Osuofia defined that the title Nollywood didn’t exist when he and different filmmakers started making movies, including that it was adopted later after discussions amongst these concerned within the business.

“I never said Yoruba started Nollywood. When did Nollywood come out? When we started film, there was no Nollywood as a name,” he mentioned.

He credited Yoruba filmmakers, together with veteran filmmaker Hubert Ogunde, for beginning the home-video custom and serving to make it standard.

“Ogunde is not Igbo. I am telling you that Yoruba started it,” Owoh mentioned.

He maintained that his place had been misunderstood, stressing that his declare was about residence video and never the creation of Nollywood.
