Woman d!es after man falling from 12th floor of a building landed on her and survived

A 23-year-old woman has died after a man fell from the 12th floor of a building and landed on her in Nagoya, Japan.

The victim, identified as Houra Inaba, was walking with a friend in the early hours of July 19 when 29-year-old Shinsei Taguchi fell from the building, striking her.

Emergency responders rushed both individuals to hospital, where Inaba was pronounced dead. Taguchi remains unconscious and in critical condition. Authorities have not determined whether the fall was accidental or intentional, and an investigation is ongoing.

The incident occurred near Yabamachi Station in Nagoya’s busy Sakae district, an area known for its high-rise buildings, offices, shops and heavy pedestrian traffic. Police cordoned off the scene as forensic officers gathered evidence.

The Aichi Prefectural Police said inquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The tragedy comes amid similar cases reported in Japan in recent years. In August 2024, a 17-year-old girl died after falling from a commercial building in Yokohama and fatally injuring a 32-year-old woman below. In October 2020, a 17-year-old boy jumped from a commercial complex in Osaka, killing a 19-year-old university student on the street.

Authorities have not linked the Nagoya incident to those previous cases, and investigations remain ongoing.
