Why APC is yet to take a position on Osun governorship ’ship election result – Yilwatda

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has described the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun state as a learning experience for the party.

Professor Yilwatda stated this Wednesday night while speaking with journalists in Ibadan after a reconciliation meeting with party leaders, stakeholders and members of the Oyo state APC Reconciliation Committee.

The APC national chairman noted that the party is yet to take an official position on the outcome of the August 15 governorship election in Osun state

He said the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) would review the Osun governorship election with the party’s candidate and other stakeholders before taking a position.

“We have not sat down as a party to take a position. A position as a party will involve the NWC inviting candidates and taking a review of what happened in Osun state,” he said.

Speaking on the reconciliation in Oyo APC, Prof Yilwatda stated that unity among party members in Oyo state is critical to the chances of the party to reclaim the state in the 2027 general elections.

The APC national chairman described the party as a big family and said disagreements among members were normal but should not be allowed to weaken the party ahead of 2027.

“We are a family. It is normal for children of the same family to have some little difficulties. But we are happy that the party is still stable,” he said.

The co-chairman of the Oyo state APC Reconciliation Committee, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, stated that the committee was working to resolve grievances arising from the party’s recent primaries, adding that some members were dissatisfied with the outcome of the primaries, but that the party must put its differences aside to pursue a common objective.

Expressing confidence that APC could reclaim Oyo state in 2027, Senator Lanlehin called party leaders, aspirants and members to support the reconciliation process.

“Nothing beats unity. Nothing beats working together. Nothing beats the strength of the party as put forward by all the members of the party,” he said.
