Bruce Taylor is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Taylor Farms, a California-based producer of fresh salads, vegetables and ready-to-eat food products. A third-generation farmer from California’s Salinas Valley, Taylor launched Taylor Fresh Foods, the parent company of Taylor Farms, in 1995.

Raised in a family with deep roots in lettuce farming, Taylor built the company with a focus on supplying fresh produce to supermarkets, restaurants and foodservice businesses across North America.

Taylor earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, before completing an MBA at Harvard University. Under Bruce Taylor’s leadership, Taylor Farms has grown into one of the world’s largest fresh produce companies, employing more than 25,000 people across dozens of processing facilities.

The company says it produces nearly 165 million servings of fruits and vegetables every week. Beyond packaged lettuce, Taylor Farms has expanded into salad kits, vegetable trays, fresh-cut produce and ready-to-eat meals.

Its operations now extend beyond the United States into Canada, Mexico, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom. Strategic acquisitions, including Earthbound Farm and Eat Smart, have further strengthened its position in the fresh and organic food market.

Food safety initiatives

Throughout his career, Taylor has played an active role in food safety and agricultural research.

He helped support the establishment of the Center for Produce Safety at the University of California, Davis, which focuses on improving produce safety through scientific research.

Taylor also backed the California Leafy Green Marketing Agreement, introduced after the 2007 E. coli outbreak to strengthen food safety standards across the leafy greens industry.

In 2009, Taylor Farms introduced SmartWash Solutions, a produce washing system designed to reduce microbial cross-contamination during food processing.
