When I First Got To School In The UK I Almost Left If Not For My Friends Telling Me I Can Do It -Eke

Mercy Eke has described studying for her MBA in the United Kingdom as one of the most difficult decisions she has taken, saying the financial burden, isolation and everyday pressure of living alone nearly made her quit. Speaking on Toke Moments, she said leaving Nigeria meant earning in naira while paying expenses in pounds, all while adjusting to a new academic and social environment.

She credited friends, including fashion entrepreneur Swanky Jerry, with encouraging her to persevere when the demands of school became overwhelming.

In Mercy Eke’s words: “It was very difficult because first of all I had to leave Nigeria, where I work and make money. I was changing naira to pounds, so it was difficult. In school too, I was new. I didn’t know anybody. I just took myself to school and kept going. It was difficult, but I’m glad that I did it.”

She added: “When I first moved to the UK, when I first got to school, I almost left. If not for my friends telling me, ‘You can do it,’ I know I called Swanky plenty times. It was difficult because you go to school, come back, and you don’t even know what to eat. You have to cook for yourself, then school and everything. It was so stressful…....
