WATCH: Massive Fire Destroys 50 Homes In Norway's Drammen As Blaze Spreads

A massive fire destroyed 40-50 homes in Krokstadelva, Drammen, and continued spreading Friday evening, forcing evacuations and prompting a major emergency response.

A massive fire tore through the residential area of Krokstadelva in Drammen, Norway, around 40 kilometers southwest of Oslo, on Friday, destroying an estimated 40 to 50 homes as firefighters battled to contain the rapidly spreading blaze.

The fire was first reported at around 3:30 PM and spread quickly through several townhouses before extending into the surrounding terrain. By 6 PM emergency officials said the fire remained out of control, with 40-50 homes already destroyed.

Police reported at 6:54 PM that the fire was spreading toward homes south of the area already affected. Residents in Neptunveien were ordered to evacuate as a precaution, while the Civil Defense assisted with the evacuation efforts. The affected area stretched from Plutobakken in the north to Neptunveien in the south.

Authorities said no residents had been reported injured or missing. However, one firefighter sustained minor injuries while responding to the emergency.

Emergency crews launched a major firefighting operation on the ground and from the air. Fire helicopters were deployed to help battle the flames, although officials said weather conditions and limited access to water were making firefighting efforts more difficult.

Authorities also confirmed that the fire had spread into the surrounding terrain above the housing estate. Loud explosions were heard in the area, prompting officials to warn the public to stay away.

An emergency warning issued by authorities stated that there was a “risk of explosion and heavy smoke.”

Officials described the blaze as a fierce fire with a high risk of spreading further through the residential neighborhood and nearby terrain. Fire crews from multiple departments were deployed, with emergency responders saying all available resources had been mobilized as efforts to contain the fire continued.
