Tuggar Rejects Bauchi APC Guber Primary Outcome, Denies Backing Consensus Candidate

The Yusuf Maitama Tuggar Campaign Organisation has distanced itself from reports claiming its supporters had accepted the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Bauchi State and pledged allegiance to the party’s consensus candidate.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the organisation described the reports as false, insisting they did not reflect the position of Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar or his campaign.

The organisation said individuals who recently addressed the media claiming to represent Tuggar’s supporters had openly acknowledged they were not authorised to speak on his behalf.
“Their views are personal and cannot be presented as those of the Ambassador or his supporters,” the statement said.

The campaign organisation further maintained that no valid APC governorship primary election was conducted in Bauchi State.
It argued that the consensus process was not preceded by broad consultations and lacked the voluntary agreement of all governorship aspirants and key stakeholders.
According to the organisation, the outcome therefore cannot be regarded as a legitimate consensus in line with the principles of internal party democracy.

The statement added that Tuggar remains committed to the APC, its constitution and the rule of law.

The organisation also urged media organisations to distinguish between statements issued by what it described as self-appointed groups and the official position of the Tuggar Campaign Organisation.

It further stated that Tuggar’s support base spans all 20 local government areas of Bauchi State and cannot be represented by a handful of individuals.
