Trump Losing Ground With Parents, Especially Mothers, Ahead of Midterms, Poll Finds

A new Echelon Insights poll shows President Trump’s approval among parents has fallen into negative territory, with mothers driving much of the decline.

A fresh round of polling shows President Donald Trump losing significant ground with mothers, even as fathers remain comparatively more supportive. When Trump began his second term, parents as a whole were fairly supportive of him. That’s no longer the case. A new survey from Echelon Insights shows his standing with parents has flipped into negative territory, though the shift isn’t happening evenly between mothers and fathers.

For a president who has tried to broaden his appeal with women voters while holding onto his traditional base among men, the numbers paint a problematic picture.

Parents also tend to weigh a mix of concerns when voting, from economic pressures to issues like childcare, education, and the overall cost of living. Any growing gap between how mothers and fathers view a president adds another layer of difficulty for campaigns trying to hold together broad coalitions of voters.

Among parents of children under 18 specifically, the numbers are somewhat better but still underwater. Approval among this group stands at 44 percent, with 55 percent disapproving, landing at a net rating of minus 11.

That’s a considerable change from where things stood a year earlier. Back in July 2025, parents actually approved of Trump on net, giving him a positive rating of plus 4, with 51 percent approval against 47 percent disapproval. That means parents overall have swung roughly 15 points away from Trump in just one year.

The survey included 1,004 likely voters and was conducted between July 9 and July 13, carrying a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.

Looking back even further sharpens the picture. In January 2025, at the very start of his second term, parents approved of Trump by a wide 55 to 39 margin, a net rating of plus 16. Compared to that starting point, the current numbers reflect a 27 point drop.

Taken together, that amounts to roughly a 30 point swing among mothers, moving from mild support into clear disapproval. Even though mothers were never strongly in Trump’s corner to begin with, their views have grown considerably more negative over time, making them a major factor behind the broader decline in his standing with parents.
