According to a report by Punch on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), on Tuesday dismissed reports claiming that he had resigned from office, describing the claims as false and misleading.

The minister also vowed to institute legal action against those responsible for spreading the rumours, saying he was surprised to learn about the reports and had no knowledge of where they originated.

His reaction came amid widespread speculation on social media and other platforms regarding his continued stay in office.

The speculation intensified on Tuesday as Musa arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja at about 3 p.m. and remained there for more than an hour before departing shortly after 4 p.m.

His visit coincided with the circulation of reports alleging that he had stepped down from his position, prompting heightened public interest in the purpose of his meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

The rumours continued to gain attention while the minister was at the Villa, with many seeking clarification about his status in the Federal Executive Council.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the Defence Minister firmly denied that there had been any discussion concerning his resignation.

He stated that the reports were entirely fabricated and insisted that there was no truth to the claims.

Musa explained that he remained fully committed to his responsibilities and suggested that those behind the reports were individuals who were uncomfortable with the progress being recorded by the administration in tackling insecurity across different parts of the country.

He further described the reports as a deliberate attempt to undermine public confidence in the government’s efforts to improve security.

According to him, the spread of false information about his resignation was aimed at creating unnecessary confusion and distracting attention from the achievements being recorded by the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

He stressed that misinformation of such nature could negatively affect public perception and weaken confidence in the ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities.

Musa clarified that his meeting with President Tinubu was a routine security briefing, held as part of regular engagements between the President and the nation’s security leadership.

He disclosed that the President expressed satisfaction with the performance of the military and acknowledged the efforts being made to address security challenges across the country.

The minister said the discussions focused on the current security situation and measures being implemented to sustain the gains achieved in recent operations against criminal groups.
