Tinubu’s Absence at Peace Accord Shows Non-Commitment to Peace – Adebayo

Prince Adewole Adebayo, presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has faulted President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the recent peace accord signing, describing it as a signal of non-commitment to peaceful elections in 2027.

Speaking in an interview, Adebayo argued that sending Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to represent him was inadequate, stressing that the President’s physical presence was crucial.

“The SGF is not involved in the election. Tinubu works and lives in Abuja, gave his word he would attend, yet failed to show up. That is an insult to the process,” Adebayo said.

He emphasised that peace cannot exist without justice, noting that electoral justice where votes are counted transparently and INEC operates independently would automatically guarantee peace.

Adebayo also criticised what he described as Tinubu’s “lawlessness” and disregard for democratic processes, insisting that the President’s absence undermined confidence in law enforcement agencies and the credibility of the election.

He pledged that under his leadership, institutions like INEC would be fully independent, law enforcement agencies would remain neutral, and elections would be conducted freely and fairly.

“The President is the tone-setter for the country. By refusing to attend, Tinubu ridiculed the process and sent the wrong signal. He must correct that by committing publicly to peace,” Adebayo added.
