The CIA-Mossad Alliance: New Mossad Chief Quietly Visits US With Iran War, Nuclear Talks On Agenda

New Mossad Director Roman Gofman has made his first official visit to Washington since assuming office in June, holding high-level discussions with CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

Israel’s newly appointed Mossad Director Roman Gofman travelled to Washington two weeks ago for his first official visit since taking charge of the country’s foreign intelligence agency, holding discussions focused on the Iran conflict, Tehran’s nuclear programme and broader US-Israel strategic coordination.

According to sources familiar with the meetings, Gofman met CIA Director John Ratcliffe and senior White House officials as tensions with Iran continued to intensify. The visit took place shortly before fighting resumed and security concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz escalated, highlighting the growing importance of intelligence coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv.

One of the principal objectives of Gofman’s visit was to coordinate Israeli and American positions regarding ongoing efforts to negotiate with Iran over its nuclear programme. According to an Israeli source, discussions focused on aligning intelligence assessments and policy positions as Washington continued evaluating diplomatic engagement with Tehran alongside military contingency planning.

The meetings also reflected concerns within sections of the US administration regarding Iran’s interpretation of previous understandings reached between the two countries.

Sources said Gofman held talks with CIA Director John Ratcliffe, who has reportedly been among the more sceptical voices within President Donald Trump’s inner circle regarding earlier understandings with Iran. Ratcliffe is said to have warned before the memorandum of understanding was signed that Tehran could interpret several provisions differently from Washington, particularly those involving maritime activity and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Neither the CIA nor Mossad publicly commented on the reported meetings.

The visit marked Gofman’s first official trip to the United States since becoming Director of Mossad in June. Widely regarded as one of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s closest advisers, Gofman has assumed leadership of Israel’s intelligence service during one of the most volatile security environments facing the country in recent years.

His Washington visit signals the importance both governments attach to maintaining close intelligence coordination as military operations and diplomatic negotiations involving Iran continue simultaneously.

The CIA and Mossad maintain one of the world’s closest intelligence relationships, with cooperation dating back to the 1950s through institutional liaison mechanisms and joint intelligence-sharing arrangements.
