Teacher Accused Of Student’s Death Surrenders To Police

• A teacher accused of flogging a 12-year-old pupil to death has surrendered to the police in Anambra State.

• The suspect voluntarily reported at the Neni Police Station after the police launched a manhunt.

A 47-year-old teacher accused of flogging a 12-year-old pupil to death in Anambra State has surrendered to the police.

The suspect, identified as Mrs. Dim Ebere, voluntarily presented herself at the Neni Police Station following a manhunt launched by the Anambra State Police Command.

Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development on Saturday, saying the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for the conclusion of the investigation.

According to him, the police, through the Safe School Protection Squad, carried out sustained operations in collaboration with officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters and engaged community leaders and other stakeholders in Adazi-Ani, where the incident occurred.

Ikenga commended the cooperation of the Adazi-Ani community, the traditional institution and other stakeholders, noting that their support contributed to the suspect’s decision to surrender.

He assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that the command remains committed to ensuring justice is served.

The police spokesperson also urged residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands and continue to provide useful information to support ongoing investigations and other policing efforts across the state.
