Taraba: Kefas using EFCC to intimidate opposition – Bwacha

The media office of former Senator Emmanuel Bwacha Thursday alleged that his recent invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was politically motivated by Taraba state Governor Agbu Kefas to intimidate opposition figures.

The allegation was contained in a statement issued by  his  special assistant on Media, Joshua Yohanna Nafinji.

While reaffirming the former senator’s respect for the constitutional mandate of the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies, the statement expressed concern over what it described as the increasing use of state institutions to harass political opponents.

The statement said the circumstances surrounding the EFCC invitation had heightened concerns that government institutions were being deployed to achieve partisan political objectives.

The media office alleged that similar actions had previously affected former Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, former Minister of Power Sale Mamman, and politician Bello Bodejo, claiming they faced politically motivated actions that disrupted their participation in the All Progressives Congress governorship and senatorial contests in Taraba State.

It also referred to the disappearance of Hon. Muktar Kawujo ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries, saying the incident sparked widespread public concern and debate among his supporters.

The statement urged the Taraba state government to uphold democratic principles by promoting fairness, transparency, political tolerance and healthy political competition.

“We are deeply concerned by what appears to be a disturbing pattern of intimidation, harassment, unlawful detention and the deployment of state institutions against perceived political rivals,” the statement said.
