The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Tuesday said it has commenced investigations into alleged inciting comments by Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Borno state Commissioner for Youth, Sainna Buba, and chairman of Kuje area council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Danjuma Shekwolo. The Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ani Iniedu, stated this while responding to questions from journalists at the joint security spokespersons’ briefing at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, Abuja. Iniedu, while addressing issues surrounding the conduct of the August 15 Osun state governorship election and recent controversial statements by political actors, said inciting comments, particularly those relating to the electoral process, constituted a criminal offence. He said the police had questioned Fadahunsi over his alleged threat against members of the Accord Party. “On the issue of the Senator in Osun state, the council chairman in the FCT and the Borno commissioner’s inciting comments; I was part of the team that questioned the distinguished senator in Osun state. “The law is very clear when it comes to inciting. It is criminal to incite members of the public, especially as you comment on the electoral process. “The Nigerian Police Force is responsible for maintaining law and order, and we will not shy away from this responsibility, no matter whose ox is gored,” he said. The development followed controversial remarks attributed to Buba, who reportedly threatened to flog residents who refused to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election. Similarly, Shekwolo reportedly warned residents of Kuje Area Council that they should either vote for the APC in 2027 or leave the council. Fadahunsi, meanwhile, was captured in a video allegedly threatening members of the Accord Party. Iniedu said all the alleged inciting statements by the political actors were being investigated and that the outcome would be made public The Force appealed to members of the public to cooperate with investigators by providing statements and evidence required to prosecute suspected offenders. Iniedu identified the reluctance of witnesses to come forward as one of the major challenges confronting criminal prosecution in the country.

A non-partisan advocacy advocacy group, the North Peace and Stability Forum (NPSF) commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for the rescue of over 610 kidnapped Nigerians from different parts of country in the month of August. The group said the significant successes recorded by the military in the ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities across the country is a major boost to national security and public confidence. In a statement signed by its Chairman, Aminu Daura, the forum specifically applauded the elimination of a notorious bandit kingpin in Katsina State and the successful rescue of hundreds of kidnapped victims during coordinated military operations conducted in August. The forum noted that the neutralisation of the feared bandit leader represents a major setback for criminal networks operating in the North-West region, where communities have endured years of attacks, abductions and destruction of livelihoods. According to the group, the operation demonstrates the growing effectiveness of ongoing military offensives and intelligence-driven missions aimed at dismantling criminal enclaves and restoring peace to affected communities. The NPSF also praised the military for rescuing 610 kidnapped victims, describing the feat as a remarkable humanitarian achievement that has reunited hundreds of families with their loved ones. Particularly commendable, the forum said, was the rescue of 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who had been abducted by criminal elements, noting that their safe return has brought relief to their families and colleagues across the country. Daura stated that the successful rescue operations reflect the commitment, courage and professionalism of Nigerian troops who continue to put their lives on the line in defence of the nation despite difficult operational conditions. The group further acknowledged the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the service chiefs for sustaining pressure on criminal groups and strengthening joint military operations across various theatres. While celebrating the latest gains, the forum urged security agencies to maintain the momentum and ensure that fleeing terrorists, bandits and kidnappers are relentlessly pursued until they no longer pose a threat to national peace and stability. The NPSF also called on citizens to support security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing operations, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility that requires cooperation between the military and local communities. The forum expressed optimism that the recent achievements would further encourage displaced persons to return to their communities, revive economic activities and strengthen confidence in government efforts to secure lives and property. “On behalf of the North Peace and Stability Forum, we congratulate the Nigerian Armed Forces on these outstanding accomplishments. The elimination of dangerous criminal elements and the rescue of hundreds of innocent citizens, including NYSC members, are clear indications that the fight against insecurity is yielding positive results. We encourage our gallant troops to remain steadfast as Nigerians continue to support and appreciate their sacrifices,” Daura stated.

In a statement signed by Deputy Director, Research and Documentation of the council Anumodu Stella, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, the Council described the death of Mr. Oladipo as a great loss to the Nigerian media industry, noting his nearly three-decade contribution to journalism and his commitment to professional practice. ‘Mr. Oladipo had an extensive career in the Nigerian media, working with leading newspapers before establishing The Eagle Online, where he contributed significantly to the growth of digital journalism and online publishing in Nigeria. “The Council acknowledged his contributions, particularly in political reporting and digital journalism, and noted that his dedication to the profession and the development of online media would be remembered by the Nigerian journalism community. “The Nigerian Press Council commiserates with the family of the deceased, his colleagues, friends, and the management and staff of The Eagle Online over this painful loss,” it said. The Council prayed God to grant the family and all those who mourn him the strength and fortitude to bear the loss, and grant the deceased eternal rest.
