Summit Fire Evacuation Map: California Wildfire Tops 2,600 Acres, Check Latest Orders, Warnings and Shelters

A rapidly spreading wildfire in northern Los Angeles County, known as the Summit Fire, has consumed over 2,600 acres, leading to mandatory evacuations and air quality warnings.

A fast-moving wildfire in northern Los Angeles County has burned more than 2,600 acres, prompting evacuation orders, smoke advisories and air quality alerts as firefighters work to contain the blaze. The Summit Fire was burning on Saturday near the Los Angeles-San Bernardino county line in the Antelope Valley, according to officials.

The fire grew rapidly on Friday, expanding from about 309 acres to 1,600 acres in roughly two-and-a-half hours. Fire officials said it continued to spread overnight.

Residents in evacuation zones LAC-E107 and LAC-E127-C were ordered to leave immediately. Evacuation warnings remain in place for several nearby areas, including zones LAC-E107-B, LAC-E126-A, LAC-E127-A, LAC-E127-B, LAC-E127-D, LAC-E128-A and LAC-E1340. Officials urged residents in those areas to prepare essential belongings, monitor emergency alerts and be ready to evacuate if conditions worsen.

Three zones in neighbouring San Bernardino County — PIN006, PIN005 and WWD03 — are also under evacuation warnings.

Los Angeles County health officials issued a smoke advisory for parts of the county due to the fire near Phelan. The advisory remains in effect until 5:00 p.m. local time on Saturday.

The National Weather Service also issued an Air Quality Alert after the South Coast Air Quality Management District warned that high-elevation areas of the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains, including Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead, could experience “harmful” levels of air pollution.

Officials advised residents to remain indoors if they see or smell smoke and to use air conditioners or air purifiers where possible. Anyone experiencing symptoms related to smoke exposure was advised to contact a healthcare provider or call 911 in a life-threatening emergency.

Hot weather is expected to complicate firefighting efforts, with temperatures in Llano, where the fire began, forecast to reach 102F (39C) on Saturday, according to AccuWeather.

The Antelope Valley Family YMCA in Lancaster has been opened as an evacuation shelter, while the Los Angeles County Animal Care Center in Palmdale is providing shelter for evacuated small animals.

The wildfire has also burned through stands of centuries-old Western Joshua trees, a culturally significant species protected under California law as threatened.

In an update issued on Friday night, fire officials said crews continued to battle the blaze from the ground and the air despite difficult terrain.

“Firefighters continue to battle the fire from both the air and the ground. Steep, rugged terrain is making access difficult, but crews will remain engaged throughout the night with support from night-flying helicopters,” the update said.

Officials added that the fire was moving towards the area burned by last year’s Bridge Fire, where reduced vegetation could help slow its spread and aid suppression efforts.
