Submit 2027 budget proposals by September 4, Zamfara government  tells emirate councils

Zamfara state Ministry of Budget and Planning has launched preparations for the 2027 annual budget estimate with a stakeholder town hall meeting, urging emirate councils and traditional rulers to submit community inputs on or before Friday, 4th September, 2026.

The meeting, held Tuesday at the College of Arts and Science (ZACAS) Hall, Gusau, was themed: “Planning Today, Building a Prosperous Zamfara Tomorrow.”

Declaring the session open, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Prof. Yahaya Zakari, said the exercise underscores the Governor Dauda Lawal administration’s commitment to inclusive, transparent and accountable governance.

“The budget is the blueprint through which we deliver services, projects, and hope to our people,” Prof. Zakari stated.

He noted that citizen-based budgeting has become global best practice.

“When citizens are involved, budgets address real needs, promote transparency, and strengthen accountability,” he added.

The commissioner outlined four platforms through which citizens and institutions can participate in the budget process including MDAs, town hall meetings, bilateral budget discussions and public hearings at the Zamfara state House of Assembly.

Prof. Zakari urged participants to center deliberations on pressing community needs, including Peace and Security, Education, Health, Agriculture, Infrastructure, Water Supply, Youth and Women Empowerment, and Social Services.

He disclosed that the 2027 budget will prioritise security, agriculture, social welfare and economic development as key drivers for sustainable growth and poverty reduction in the state.
